Seeds
Our
seed orchard gives us an advantage in producing premium
North Carolina Fraser Fir Christmas trees. We began grafting
our seed orchard in 1987 with selected scion wood from
previously purged mother trees. In this selection we
considered growth rate, needle retention, limb density,
color, limb angle and needle length of the mother trees. The
selections of older mature trees were grafted in young
transplants. The grafted transplants were planted in a grid
pattern to allow for optimum pollination. Our orchard
produces seed that yields premium Fraser Fir Christmas trees
for us and our customers.
Seedlings
The seedlings produced from our nursery are superior to
others because of their well developed root system and
selected lineage. Our seedlings are produced from our own
grafted seed orchard. They are grown in a greenhouse with
soil less media. This helps insure that the seedlings are
disease free when transplanted in the nursery lineout beds.
They are grown to size suitable for field survival in raised
lineout beds. Seedlings grown in a greenhouse thrive in a
controlled environment. This environment, along with lineal
traits, creates consistent size and quality in our seedlings
and transplants. We produce plants that are established and
stronger, ready to grow into beautiful Fraser Fir Christmas
trees. |
